Money for fish harvesters and sharespersons
Employment Insurance (EI) provides temporary financial assistance to qualifying, self-employed fishers who are actively seeking work. This includes regular fishing benefits, as well as special benefits such as sickness (up to 26 weeks), maternity (up to 15 weeks), parental (standard up to 40 weeks, extended up to 69 weeks), compassionate care (up to 26 weeks), and family caregiver benefits (up to 35 weeks for children, up to 15 weeks for adults). Weekly benefits are calculated at 55% of average insurable earnings, up to a maximum of $1,263 per week (2025 rates). A family supplement may increase the benefit rate up to 80% for low-income families.
