Subsidy to hire students for work-integrated learning
Wage subsidies for employers hiring post-secondary students for quality work-integrated learning (WIL) experiences. Employers can receive 50% of wages (up to $5,000) for each net new placement, and 70% of wages (up to $7,000) for net new placements involving students from under-represented groups (women in STEM, Indigenous students, newcomers, persons with disabilities, visible minorities, first-year students).

Other Criteria: Employer is a Registered, Canadian business or not-for-profit, Employer is willing to provide a quality work-integrated learning (WIL) experience to a Post Secondary student, Employer is committed to paying the student for the role and has the financial capacity to pay the student in full (subsidy administered after placement), Employer is compliant with all federal and provincial human rights and labour legislation, Employer is responsible for Workplace Safety and Insurance Board (WSIB) or alternate workplace insurance coverage where legally required, Placement must meet requirements of a 'Net NEW placement' (increase in students hired compared to baseline year), Student must be registered as a domestic student in a recognized post-secondary institution, Student must be a Canadian citizen, permanent resident, or person to whom refugee protection has been conferred, Student must be legally entitled to work in Canada, Student must be undertaking a placement recognized as work-integrated learning (WIL) in connection with a course, degree, certificate, diploma, or other recognized program, Student can be graduate students (Masters and PhDs), Placement can be full-time or part-time, Placement types: Co-operative Education, Entrepreneurship, Field Placement, Internship, Service Learning, Work Experience, Applied Research Project, Placement cannot be filled by a business owner or an existing employee, Placement cannot be for an immediate family member of the employer, Placement generally should not be less than one month, Partial provincial, territorial and municipal funds are permitted to be combined with SWPP (non-governmental sources only are eligible for subsidy calculation, e.g., fundraising/donations), Federal funding programs cannot be combined with SWPP for the same placement
