Money for electricity firms to hire students
Wage subsidies of up to $7,000 per student placement for employers creating new Work-Integrated Learning opportunities in the electricity sector. Standard subsidy is 50% of gross pay up to $5,000. Increased subsidy (70% of gross pay up to $7,000) is available for placements involving specific student demographics (First year students, Women in STEM, Newcomers to Canada, Persons with Disabilities, Indigenous Peoples). Participants also receive free access to a Professional Skills Training Program.

Other Criteria: Canadian-owned company, Primary activity aligns with the electricity sector (generation, transmission, distribution, or supporting activities like R&D, manufacturing, services), Creates new Work-Integrated Learning (WIL) opportunities for students (Net New Rule applies as of April 1, 2022), Must provide a full or part-time work opportunity for a post-secondary student in a science, technology, engineering, mathematics, arts, or business program, Student participant must be registered as a full-time or part-time student in a post-secondary institution, Student participant must be a Canadian citizen, permanent resident, or person with refugee protection in Canada, Student participant must be legally able to work in Canada, Placements must be meaningful work-integrated learning opportunities, generally at least 12 weeks long and not longer than one year, Company must develop a Formal Learning Plan with the participant, Company must provide proof of co-op placement employment, start date, contract, full wage, and benefits upon request, Company must provide monthly financial claims and progress reports for each student, Participants eligible for increased subsidies include: First year students, Women in STEM, Newcomers to Canada, Persons with Disabilities, Indigenous Peoples
