Funding to hire co-ops in healthcare or bio-economy
Wage subsidies for employers to hire post-secondary students for paid internships/Work-Integrated Learning (WIL) opportunities. The program covers 50% of a student's salary up to $5,000, or 70% up to $7,000 for first-year students and those from under-represented groups (women in STEM, Indigenous students, persons with disabilities, visible minorities, and newcomers). The initiative aims to provide students with on-the-job training and increase their job-readiness in the bio-economy and healthcare sectors.

Other Criteria: Employer must be creating a Work-Integrated Learning (WIL) opportunity, Position or employer must have a biotechnology, biosciences, or healthcare (with bio-economy overlap) focus, Placement must be 'net new' (over and above the organization’s baseline number of students previously hired), Placement duration must be a minimum of 10 hours/week, for a minimum of 4 weeks up to a maximum of 16 weeks, Student must be added to the employer’s payroll (including Federal/Provincial tax deductions), Employer cannot be a post-secondary institution (university, college, polytechnic) as the employer of record, Employer cannot recruit and retain friends or family members as participants, Student must be enrolled as a full-time or part-time student at a Canadian post-secondary education institution (including CEGEP, College, undergrad, Masters, PhD or post-graduate students), Student must be a Canadian citizen, permanent resident, or a person to whom refugee protection has been conferred and legally entitled to work in Canada, Student must be studying in fields related to science, technology, engineering, mathematics (STEM), business, or any other program, Student must find a placement before the application process starts
