Subsidized environmental STEM intern
Wage subsidy covering 80% of a participant's salary up to a maximum of $25,000 for internships in bio-economy or environmental STEM fields. Additionally, employers may be eligible for up to $5,000 for training, skills development, and/or wrap-around services.

Other Criteria: Participants must be new (not yet employed) to the organization., Participants must be aged 30 or under at the beginning of the internship., Participants must be a graduate from a post-secondary institution (does not have to be a STEM grad)., Participants must be Canadian citizens, permanent residents, or persons who have been granted refugee status in Canada., Participants must be legally entitled to work in Canada., Participants must not be in receipt of Employment Insurance (EI) benefits at the start of the internship., Participants must not have participated in any other Youth Employment and Skills Strategy Programs targeted at post-secondary graduates., Internship must be a minimum of 30 hours per week., Internship must have a required duration between 4-12 months., Employer must establish and maintain a process for supervising and mentoring an intern., Employer must contribute at minimum 20% of the total cost of the paid internship (not including wrap-around services)., Internship must provide a work environment that is safe, respectful, inclusive, free of harassment, abuse, and discrimination., Internship must see the participant added to the employer’s payroll which includes Federal/Provincial tax deductions., Internship must meet one of the following additional requirements: offers skills development/training; is related to the interests and pursuits of youth; offers a salary above minimum wage; offers opportunities for advancement., Eligible employers include individuals, for-profit organizations (small- or medium-sized enterprises, corporations, or industry associations), provincial and territorial/municipal/local governments, post-secondary institutions, and other organizations (including non-government organizations, non-profit organizations, Indigenous organizations)., Priority is given to employers who have not previously participated in the Science Horizons program., Priority is given to employers hiring from underrepresented talent groups.
