Support for tariff impacted small and medium-sized enterprises and sectors
Helps businesses facing financial challenges from tariffs stay afloat and keep jobs in Canada. Supports long-term competitiveness and resilience.
The Regional Tariff Response Initiative offered two types of support for tariff-impacted businesses and supporting non-profits in Northern Ontario: 1. Liquidity Assistance: Non-repayable funding up to $2 million (up to 50% of eligible costs or payroll for up to 12 months) to maintain operations and retain employees. 2. Pivot Projects: Non-repayable funding up to $1 million (up to 50% of eligible costs) for projects with local/regional economic benefits, or repayable funding over $1 million (up to 75% of eligible costs) for larger transformative projects to improve productivity, competitiveness, and resilience. Repayable contributions were interest-free. Combined non-repayable funding was capped at $3 million (up to $2 million liquidity + up to $1 million non-repayable pivot). Total RTRI funding, including repayable support, could reach up to $20 million per applicant.
