Funding for artificial intelligence in Northern Ontario
Helps businesses and organizations in Northern Ontario adopt new artificial intelligence technologies. Supports bringing these technologies to market in key sectors like agriculture and health.
Financial support to help bring new AI technologies to market and accelerate AI adoption in critical sectors within Northern Ontario. Support includes AI productization and commercialization for scale-ups, and AI application adoption for SMEs. For-profit organizations may receive repayable contributions up to 50% of capital costs and 75% for non-capital costs (total government funding not to exceed 50% and 75% respectively). Not-for-profit organizations may receive non-repayable contributions up to 75% of eligible costs (total government funding not to exceed 100% of eligible costs).

Other Criteria: Incorporated small and medium-sized enterprises, Incorporated not-for-profit organizations, Indigenous (First Nation/Mรฉtis/Inuit) communities and organizations, Municipalities and municipal organizations, Commercializing and/or adopting AI solutions, Legal entities capable of entering into legally binding agreements, Sustainable business model normally supported by two (2) years of operations, Financial capacity to complete the project and repay the contribution in full (for for-profit), Managerial, technical, and operational capacity to achieve project objectives, Potential for market growth, diversification of export markets and/or participation in global value chains, Viable project plan with achievable outcomes and verifiable cost estimates, Commercialization projects are at Technology Readiness Level (TRL) 7 or higher, Consideration of legislative/regulatory requirements (AIDA), responsible and ethical AI use, IP management, data security/privacy
