Financing for natural product innovations
Helps researchers, startups, and small businesses pay for testing new natural products or technologies. Covers up to 40% of the costs, with a maximum of $350,000.
Non-repayable, non-dilutive funding for projects that establish the commercial feasibility of innovative natural products or technologies (TRL 4-9). The program supports activities to advance development, commercialization, or de-risk subsequent investment. Funding covers up to 40% of eligible project costs, with applicants required to contribute 60% of the cost over the project period. Combined government financial assistance (federal, provincial, territorial, municipal) cannot exceed 75% of eligible costs for SMEs/start-up companies and 100% for academic research institutes. Successful applicants will also receive support and guidance throughout the application process. A non-refundable project administration fee of 5% of total project costs plus GST/HST is required, which is not an eligible project cost.

Other Criteria: Applicant must be a Canadian incorporated SME, start-up company, or academic research institute, Must be a member of Natural Products Canada, Project involves a novel natural product or technology (Technology Readiness Levels (TRL) 4-9), Product/technology must align with NPCโs definition of bio-based innovation (leverages or enhances naturally-occurring molecules), For SMEs/start-ups: potential to achieve $10MM to $15MM in annual revenue within a reasonable period, For academic research institutes: product/technology must address an industry/sector challenge with significant market potential, Project must demonstrate technical feasibility, Project must have potential for commercialization in Canada, Project should demonstrate significant economic, social, health, and/or environmental benefits, Project should demonstrate technological advancement and benefits to the natural products ecosystem across Canada, Project should have potential spillover benefits to more than one sector, Project should show potential for improving the representation of women, visible minorities, and Indigenous peoples in the natural products ecosystem, Project requires a minimum NPC contribution of $100,000
