Funding for Indigenous interns in Northern Ontario
Wage subsidy covering salaries/wages and employerβs portion of Mandatory Employment Related Costs (MERCs) for a limited-term, 52-week full-time internship position.

Other Criteria: Organizations must be businesses, municipalities, Indigenous communities, or not-for-profit organizations (colleges, universities, and research institutions also eligible for specific positions)., Organizations must be in operation for at least one year., Organizations must have a minimum of one full-time employee., Organizations must recruit interns through a fair and transparent process (requires posting job advertisements)., Interns must have direct onsite supervision., Immediate family members of owners or directors cannot be hired, except in small Northern communities with limited workers., Organizations are generally eligible for two internship positions at a given time (colleges, universities, and research institutions may be eligible for up to five research positions in addition to two regular internship positions)., Organizations must maintain at least $2 million in commercial general liability insurance, naming NOHFC and its staff as additional insureds, with a cross-liability clause, contractual liability coverage, and a 30-day notice period for cancellations or changes., Interns must identify as an Indigenous person (First Nation, Metis, or Inuit)., Interns must be new entrants into the work force, transitioning to a new career, or unemployed or underemployed who are entering a new field., Interns must not have previously participated in a NOHFC-funded internship., Interns must be at least 18 years of age., Interns must reside, and be legally entitled to work, in Canada.
