Assistance to hire newcomer workers in the NWT
Facilitates the nomination of foreign nationals to help NWT employers fill job vacancies across various skill levels (entry-level/semi-skilled, skilled worker, or Express Entry) when suitable Canadian candidates cannot be found. Includes post-nomination support such as Work Permit Support Letters for approved nominees and ongoing guidance for employers and nominees.

Other Criteria: Employer is a registered business or a local, municipal, Indigenous or territorial government department in the NWT, Employer is registered and operational for a minimum of one (1) year, Employer is in good standing with the Workers’ Safety and Compensation Commission of the Northwest Territories and the Northwest Territories Employment Standards office, Employer has advertised the position and failed to find a suitable Canadian candidate, Candidate must already have a Canadian work permit, For Entry Level/Semi-Skilled Occupations: Candidate must work with employer in the nominating occupation full-time for at least 12 months AND have a valid work permit before employer can apply, For Skilled Worker and Express Entry categories: Candidate must have at least one year of experience in the nominating occupation AND have a valid work permit before employer can apply, If employer has an approved Labour Market Impact Assessment (LMIA) from ESDC, proof of LMIA is required, If no LMIA, for Skilled Worker or Express Entry categories, employer must have advertised the job for a minimum of 14 consecutive calendar days within the past eighteen (18) months prior to submitting application, If no LMIA, for Entry Level/Semi-Skilled Occupations category, employer must have advertised the job for a minimum of 30 consecutive calendar days within the past eighteen (18) months prior to submitting application, Employer must adhere to the terms of the Memorandum of Understanding signed after a worker is nominated, Employer must notify NTNP within 10 business days of any changes to the employment relationship (e.g., reduction of hours below 30/week, resignation, termination, lay-off), Employer must notify NTNP immediately by email of any changes to a nomination certificate (e.g., address, name, marital status, adding a dependent, changing occupations, changing employer – some require prior consultation)
