Funding to create summer jobs for First Nations and Inuit students
Provides wage subsidies to eligible organizations (First Nations/Inuit communities, governments, schools, non-profits, private sector employers) to offer summer employment opportunities for First Nations and Inuit secondary and post-secondary students. The program aims to help youth gain work experience, develop employability skills, learn about career options, earn income for education, and prepare for the labour market. Wage subsidies cover up to 100% of wage costs and mandatory employment-related costs for non-profit organizations, up to 50% for private sector employers, and 100% for participants with disabilities. An additional maximum contribution of $3,000 per participant with disabilities may be available for special equipment and facilities.

Other Criteria: Eligible funding recipients include: First Nations and Inuit communities, governments and organizations, First Nations schools or federal schools on reserve, not-for-profit associations (based in Canada), and private sector employers (based in Canada)., Recipients must provide summer work experience opportunities for eligible First Nations and Inuit secondary and post-secondary students., Proposals must meet the National Program Guidelines, be gender-balanced, outline activities and expected results, demonstrate assistance only to eligible participants, provide estimated eligible costs (including shared costs with partners), and ensure placements offer a minimum of 80 hours of work per participant., Eligible participants (youth) must be: First Nations secondary or post-secondary students ordinarily resident on reserve or in a recognized community/settlement on Crown land; OR Inuit secondary or post-secondary students residing in Canada but outside their territory and ineligible for territorial funding., Eligible participants (youth) must also be: legally entitled to work in Canada, aged 15 to 30 years at the start of activities, and a secondary or post-secondary student returning to studies in the next academic session.
