Funding to provide work skills to First Nations and Inuit youth
Provides funding primarily as wage subsidies and contributions for eligible organizations to offer employment skills development, mentored work placements, co-op education, internships, career planning, and science/technology promotion activities for First Nations and Inuit youth. Not-for-profit organizations can receive funding up to 100% of wage costs and mandatory employment-related costs (MERC), while private sector employers can receive up to 50%. 100% wage and MERC coverage is available for participants with disabilities, along with up to $3,000 for special equipment/facilities per participant. Also covers specific necessary placement costs (up to $300 for gear), dependent care, and travel/living expenses for participants. Administration costs are capped at 15% of the sub-total requested amount.
Industries: Any industry capable of providing employment/training opportunities for youth, with an emphasis on science and technology
Region: Canada-wide for funding recipients, First Nations youth ordinarily resident on reserve or in a recognized community, Inuit youth residents in Canada but outside their territory
Demographics: First Nations youth, Inuit youth, youth with disabilities, youth aged 15-30 (with exceptions for co-op/S&T activities for those younger than 15)
Other Criteria: First Nations and Inuit communities, Governments and organizations, First Nations schools or federal schools on reserve, Not-for-profit associations, Private sector employers, Private sector activities must be non-commercial and not profit-generating, Eligible youth must be legally entitled to work in Canada, Mentored work placements for youth who are not in school, are unemployed or underemployed, Inuit youth must provide proof of ineligibility for territorial funding, Proposals must be gender-balanced and align with National Program Guidelines, For co-operative education activities, only First Nations schools or federal schools on reserve can submit proposals through their administering organization
