Grants for economic development in eastern Ontario
Helps businesses and organizations in eastern Ontario pay for projects that create jobs and boost the local economy. Covers half the project costs, up to $1.5 million.
Provides financial support and complementary services to help eligible businesses, municipalities, and not-for-profit organizations in Eastern Ontario grow, improve productivity, innovate, pursue new markets, generate economic impact, and create jobs. For businesses, support includes loans (up to 15% of eligible project costs, max $5M, interest-free for up to 4 years, with potential 30% forgiveness up to $500K) and grants (up to 15% of costs, max $500K for rural SMEs or $1.5M for strategic/FDI projects). For community projects, grants cover up to 50% of eligible costs, max $1.5M. Both streams also offer advisory services, assistance with environmental compliance, skills and talent access, land-use planning, workforce development, and information on tax credits.

Other Criteria: For-profit businesses must be incorporated., Applicants (or a consortium partner) must have a minimum of 3 years of operations supported by financial statements., Businesses must employ at least 10 people (or 5 if in rural Ontario)., Businesses must commit to creating at least 5 new jobs (or a 30% increase for companies with fewer than 15 employees)., Business projects must involve an investment of at least $500,000 ($200,000 if in rural Ontario)., Community projects must be led by municipalities, Indigenous communities, economic development organizations, sector organizations, or consortia (led by at least one not-for-profit organization)., Community projects must involve an investment of more than $100,000., Community projects require private sector support., All projects must be distinct undertakings, separate from ongoing operations, and involve activities new to the organization., Rural Ontario is defined as a municipality with a population of less than 100,000 or a population density of 100 people per square kilometre or less.
