Funding is provided to assist the ongoing production, marketing, and distribution of Canadian-authored books, including supplementary funding for export sales and incentives for accessible digital publishing. Support is available to offset eligible cash expenses between April 1, 2025 and March 31, 2026, for activities such as editorial, design, printing, author development/royalty, promotion, distribution, capital expenses, travel, and overhead. Funding amounts are generated using a formula based on eligible sales. The maximum supplementary amount for export sales is $70,000. For affiliated groups, the maximum base amount is $850,000 and the maximum export supplement is $55,000. Total government assistance can cover up to 75% (90% for specific demographics/small literary publishers, 100% for not-for-profit recipients) of book publishing expenses.

Other Criteria: book publishing firm, minimum 12 months of operation as a book publisher, at least 75% Canadian-owned and controlled, headquarters and at least 75% of employees based in Canada, private-sector firm (for-profit or not-for-profit) or university press, financially viable, fulfilled author royalty payment obligations, publish at least one new, eligible, Canadian-authored title during reference year, publish at least one eligible digital new title or eligible digital edition during reference year (a detailed written explanation is considered if unable to meet digital requirement), publication minimum: 15 trade books or 10 educational/scholarly books since inception, and 12 trade or 6 educational/scholarly books over past 3 financial years (if 3+ financial years of operation), publication minimum: 15 trade books or 10 educational/scholarly books since inception (if less than 3 financial years of operation), publication minimum: 10 new, eligible Canadian-authored titles since inception and 6 over past 3 financial years (for Indigenous, official-language minority, and racialized publishers), at least 65% of net revenue (40% for Indigenous, official-language minority, racialized publishers) must be related to book publication and sale, revenue from author-subsidized titles must not exceed 25% of net revenue, number of self-published titles must not exceed 50% of total new titles, eligible books must be written/adapted/translated by a Canadian, at least 48 pages (print) or 15,000 words (digital new title), clearly attributed, publisher's own title, bear an ISBN, and printed/manufactured in Canada (with exceptions), returning applicants may receive a sales minimum exemption once in any 5-year program cycle
