Helps small businesses get funding to enter international markets where they have few or no sales. Covers up to $50,000.
Funding to support costs of business development activities to explore potential new international markets with little or no existing sales. Activities include international travel for meetings/events, participation in trade events, market intelligence, international intellectual property protection, adaptation of contractual agreements, supplier diversity certifications, expert legal/business advice, and tailored marketing materials. Program funds 50% of eligible project costs (total project cost between $20,000 and $100,000 CAD). Companies can receive a maximum of $99,999 in CanExport SMEs funding per government fiscal year across multiple projects.

Other Criteria: for-profit, incorporated legal entity, limited liability partnership (LLP) or cooperative, active Canada Revenue Agency (CRA) business number, 1 to 500 full-time equivalent (FTE) employees, meaningful economic ties to Canada (e.g., product/service of Canadian origin or brings value to Canada), capacity and commitment to expand globally, target markets must be new (sales in target market were less than $100,000, OR sales were greater than $100,000 but less than 10% of total combined domestic and international sales during last complete tax reporting year), export-ready business, have legal signing authority, if a sister/affiliated company offers same products/services in target market, must demonstrate differentiation, cannot apply on behalf of another entity identified by a different CRA business number (e.g., parent company for subsidiary)
