Funding to access top-ranked research talent
Leveraged funding (research award/stipend/salary) for research-based internships in collaboration between eligible Canadian organizations and post-secondary students/postdoctoral fellows/academic researchers. Funding is provided per 4- or 6-month internship unit, with projects scalable to multiple units (e.g., up to 50 IUs for special offers). The program fosters applied research, knowledge transfer, hands-on experience, and professional networking.

Other Criteria: Partner organizations must be based in Canada (for-profit corporations, eligible not-for-profit corporations, municipalities, or hospitals)., For-profit corporations must receive more than 50% of their funds from non-government sources., Not-for-profit, municipality, or hospital partners must demonstrate an economic or productivity orientation., Eligible for intern-owned start-ups based at approved Canadian incubators., International businesses/not-for-profits are eligible as additional partners on projects with a Canadian partner organization., Academic supervisors must be faculty at a Canadian academic institution eligible to hold Tri-Agency funds., Interns must be 18 years old or over and fall into one of the following categories: Registered students/postdoctoral fellows at Mitacs partner Canadian colleges/universities; Postdoctoral fellows (PhD graduation less than 5 years ago, with exceptions); Recent graduates (within 2 years of graduation); Non-degree students (diploma/certificate) at the academic institutionโs discretion; Visiting students/researchers at Canadian academic institutions completing a degree abroad (at the Canadian institutionโs discretion)., Interns can be Canadian citizens, permanent residents, international students with a student visa, or international postdoctoral fellows with a valid work permit., Interns must maintain student, postdoc, or recent graduate status at an eligible academic institution for the duration of their internship., Part-time students are eligible for Accelerate internships that do not include international travel, subject to specific conditions.
