Funding to provide work skills to First Nations and Inuit youth
Provides funding to support activities assisting First Nations and Inuit youth aged 15-30 (with exceptions) in acquiring essential employment skills, exploring career options, and gaining work experience. This includes wage subsidies for mentored work placements, support for school-based co-op and internships, and science/technology promotion activities. For mentored work placements, Not-for-profit organizations can receive up to 100% of wage costs and mandatory employment-related costs (MERC), while private sector employers can receive up to 50%. An additional maximum contribution of $3,000 per participant with disabilities may be available for special equipment and facilities. Administration costs for direct recipients are capped at 15%.

Other Criteria: Funding recipients can be First Nations and Inuit communities, governments, and organizations, First Nations schools or federal schools on reserve, Not-for-profit associations, and Private sector employers., Private sector employers' activities must be non-commercial and not intended to generate profit., Eligible youth participants must be legally entitled to work in Canada., Youth aged 15 to 30 years inclusive at the start of the program's activities (exceptions: younger than 15 for co-op education/grades 7-12, or career promotion/science & technology activities)., Mentored work placements are for youth not in school, unemployed, or underemployed., Inuit youth residing outside their territory must provide proof of ineligibility for territorial funding., For co-operative education activities, only First Nations schools or federal schools on reserve may submit proposals.
