This program supports local festivals, community anniversaries, and community-initiated capital projects. It provides funding to local groups for recurring festivals that present the work of local artists, artisans, heritage performers or specialists, and local First Nations, Inuit, and MΓ©tis cultural carriers.
Funding is provided through three components: Local Festivals (up to $200,000 for recurring local arts and heritage festivals), Community Anniversaries (up to $200,000 for non-recurring local historical anniversaries, including up to $25,000 for minor capital projects/commemorative items), and Legacy Fund (up to $500,000, covering up to 50% of eligible expenses, for capital projects that restore, renovate, or transform community spaces commemorating local history and intended for community use).

Other Criteria: Projects must involve local artists, artisans, heritage performers, or cultural carriers, Projects must actively involve members of the local community, Projects must be intended for and accessible to the general public, Local Festivals component: For recurring festivals; applicants must have successfully organized a prior edition within the last 2 years, Community Anniversaries component: For non-recurring local anniversary commemoration events; events must commemorate the 100th anniversary or greater, in increments of 25 years, of a significant local historical event or personality, Legacy Fund component: For community-initiated capital projects (restoration, renovation, or transformation of existing buildings or exterior spaces); projects must commemorate the 100th anniversary or greater, in increments of 25 years, of a significant local historical event or personality; organizations must have been in existence for at least two years and plan to continue operating after the projectβs completion; municipal entities require an active partnership with at least one community-based group
