Help to support businesses to respond to trade disruptions
Helps businesses in Atlantic Canada facing trade pressures pay for costs to keep running and retain employees. Provides support for adapting to trade disruptions and improving competitiveness.
The Regional Tariff Response Initiative (RTRI) offers financial support to tariff-impacted businesses in Atlantic Canada to help maintain operations, strengthen competitiveness, and build long-term resilience. This includes non-repayable liquidity assistance (up to $2 million) to manage financial pressures and retain employees, and funding for pivot projects (up to $1 million non-repayable or over $1 million repayable, up to a total of $20 million with repayable funding) focused on productivity, competitiveness, and reducing exposure to future trade disruptions. Non-profit organizations supporting businesses are also eligible for project funding.

Other Criteria: incorporated for-profit business, located and operating in Atlantic Canada, minimum $1 million in annual revenue in one or both of the last two fiscal years, viable prior to tariffs, demonstrate impact by ongoing trade disruptions (U.S. tariffs, Canadian countermeasures, countervailing duties), operates in a sector impacted by Section 338 or Section 232 tariffs (direct or indirect exposure), at least 25% or more revenue from goods ultimately exported to the U.S., experienced significant cost increases due to tariffs, supply chain disruption, or revenue/customer loss, non-profit organizations whose primary focus is to support businesses (not eligible for liquidity support for own operating expenses), previous RTRI recipients may be eligible for liquidity support (no duplication of funding for existing agreements), commitment to maintaining operations and employment in Canada (for liquidity assistance)
